Product Description : Shimano Tourney TX75 6/7 speed rear derailleur is compatible with 6 or 7 speed cassettes and freewheels. Direct mount. I bought this derailleur because the original one on my trek 820 had broken in an accident. I removed the old one and installed this new one without much trouble. It was slightly different than the original tourney, but it works fine. I had never done this operation on my bike before, but it only took about 90 minutes. I would recommend buying a chain tool, as a hammer+nut+drill bit isn't the best way to take a chain apart/put it back together. The gears are plastic, but they were on my original one as well.There is only one con for me. After replacing the derailleur i can no longer apply pressure to the pedals in 7th gear. There isn't enough adjustment to allow it to not grab. It might also be a problem with wear and tear on the sprokets/chain ( 3500 - 4000 miles ). I just use 6th gear and make due. It works for my purposes now (commuting to work, to friend's houses, etc). I would not want to take it down any serious trails, but it does hold up well in normal riding.I would buy one again. For the price, you really can't go wrong. I don't know how much a bike shop would charge for labor, but it is a really simple job once you know what you're doing. Good luck :) I needed to replace an old Montech friction derailleur, so I chose the Shimano Tourney TX 75, partly because it was so inexpensive. I had never replaced a derailler before, but after watching a youtube video and reading the instructions that came with the Tourney, I installed the derailleur without a problem. After a test ride, I can say it works well, shifts smoothly, and is quiet.I mated this derailleur with Sun Race indexed clamp-on downtube shifters and a Shimano 6-speed freewheel. All components worked fine and for less that $50 I had a nice upgrade to my old drivetrain.The only thing I found a bit odd was that the instructions said I needed to add two links to my chain. It did not say why. I compared the dimensions of the old derailleur with the Tourney, and they were basically the same, so I did not add any chain links. Everything worked fine.Seems to be a good product at a great price. Easy to install.A little more difficult to adjust.A Fourth Hand Tool would be nice to have. I installed without that tool so you can do it. The part work great, makes shifting easy, has a good feel. Has not missed a gear since install. Very good part for the price!Amazon was great with sending out the parts used free shipping, ( Now that's nice!) Had to wait 2 more days but that was no problem, big money saver!
